For the past two decades, research in green and renewable energy have exploded within the market, yielding hundreds of innovative and promising technological solutions to reduce the public’s use and dependence on coal, oil, and other natural gases.

But why is this important? Is this just another gimmick for people to buy into or is mother earth truly in danger?

To answer this question, it is imperative that you have a deeper understanding on the dangers and negatives that greenhouse gases can have on our environment. Greenhouse gas, by definition, are any gaseous compounds in the atmosphere that are capable of absorbing infrared radiation, thereby trapping and holding heat in the atmosphere. By increasing heat in the atmosphere, the gases become responsible for the greenhouse effect, which ultimately leads to global warming. Some examples of greenhouse gases are water vapors, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone. Today, we are currently seeing the impact that these gases are having through extreme changes in the climate as well as the global terrain.

Because of these extreme shifts within the climate and global terrain, millions of people have looked at other sources, like green energy, to replace the use and dependence of limited resources like gas or oil. Green energy comes from natural sources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, plants, algae, and geothermal heat. These energy resources are not only renewable, meaning they are naturally replenished, but also impactful.

For green technologies, these methods and devices goals are simple. They are intend to mitigate and reverse the effects of human activity on the environment by providing purposeful and functional products that are both replaceable and applicable for the public. For the past few decades, scientist, researchers, and investors have focused specifically on four green energy concepts. However, with a wide range of interest and a strong push within technology, it looks like we can begin seeing new technology that can change our future for the better.

1. Solar Power

Solar power is probably one of the most prevalent concepts of renewable energy. It is the use of the sun’s energy and absorbs it through photovoltaic cells to generate electricity.

2. Wind Power

Wind energy or wind power is mechanical or electrical energy that is extracted from airflow through wind turbines or sails.

3. Hydropower

Hydropower electricity, also known as waterpower, is power derived from the energy of falling water or fast running water. This concept of course depends on high precipitation levels in order to produce a significant amount of energy.

4. Geothermal Energy

Geothermal Energy, also known as thermal energy, is generated and stored in the Earth itself. This energy source can be found just underneath the earth’s crust where a massive amount of thermal energy originates. Usually, geothermal energy is in the form of hot springs, which has been used by humans for millenniums for bathing and relaxing. Now it is utilized to generate electricity.
